Orkney’s finest food and drink businesses were recognised at a prestigious awards ceremony held in Stromness last night (Saturday, 15 October).
Thirty-six local food and drink business were shortlisted for 16 different awards, covering everything from the best breakfasts, lunches and evening meals, to the finest bakery, drink, meat, fish and dairy products. Prizes for the top marketing initiative and new product were also presented, along with awards for continued excellence and outstanding customer service.
The biennial event – re-launched in 2014 – was organised by Orkney Food and Drink, with sponsorship from NorthLink Ferries and Highland Park Distillery.
The awards shortlist was drawn up following a public vote earlier this year that attracted 4,000 nominations. The winners, listed below, were announced at last night’s gala awards dinner in Stromness Academy, with each receiving a unique crystal trophy.
Edgar Balfour, development manager for Orkney food, drink and crafts, said: “The event was a truly fantastic showcase for Orkney’s food and drink sector and we should congratulate all the businesses that were nominated by the public, and ultimately shortlisted. Of course, particular recognition must go to the winners for the incredibly high standards they have set. Their dedication contributes greatly to Orkney’s reputation as a food and drink centre of excellence and it’s wonderful that we have this opportunity to reward and celebrate their commitment.”

Peter Hutchinson, customer service director at NorthLink Ferries, said: “NorthLink Ferries would like to congratulate all of this year’s winners. As a company that sources quality on board produce from across the Northern Isles, we are very pleased to once again support the competition and its successful applicants.
“The Orkney Food and Drink Awards are a great opportunity for a range of businesses to showcase their commitment to local produce and this year we have seen an outstanding number of entries from restaurants, hotels and food retailers striving to offer customers and guests the best food and drink experience.”
